In addition to our owner and Chief Zen Officer Anna, each Above Yoga retreat has one or two additional certified yoga teachers on-site who will lead a portion of the classes and support students in their practice. We find that an opportunity to participate in a variety of classes with various teaching styles adds to our guests’ overall retreat experience.
Anna is the Owner + Chief Zen Officer of Above Yoga. She loves to teach yoga flows that are accessible to every level of student but offers challenges in an inclusive and warm environment.
Valerie specializes in yin yoga (long, slow holds that get deep into the connective tissues). She teaches at NoDa Yoga in Charlotte and has also joined Above Yoga in Cambodia as a retreat guest.
While our days will vary based on the planned activities, here is an example day on a retreat:
*Everything on our retreats is 100% optional. While multiple excursions are included in the price, you are welcome to not attend any of them. Private Countryside French Chateau
Nestled between the Pyrenees Mountains and the French coast, our charming French chateau is built for relaxation and stepping away from the busy world of your day-to-day life. Retreat off-the-grid, immerse yourself in French culture, wine and food... and come back from vacation truly refreshed and renewed.
This is a eco-friendly and fully autonomous property that is off-the-grid. So, like much of Europe, there is no A/C, but the house’s thick walls and the area’s breeze keep it naturally temperature-controlled. We ask you conserve the villa's water by taking shorter showers and reusing your bath towels through the week.
There is no WiFi access at the retreat property and cell service is spotty. Guests are encouraged to take time away from their devices to reconnect with nature, themselves & other guests. If you need to be in touch everyday back at home, consider buying a local SIM card for your phone.
Average weather for early June: high 77 / low 62. Expect ample sunshine and breezes as we are in the mountains.
Taking more time in Europe before or after is encouraged… no better spot than beautiful Barcelona to stay a few nights to bookend your retreat! It is also possible to travel to Paris from Perpignan (about a 5.5 hour train ride), or other parts of the French Riviera by train or privately booked car.
Pick up for the ground transportation to the retreat center can be from the either the Perpignan (France) train station or the PGF airport on the afternoon of Saturday, May 28 (around 4:00 pm, but pick up times will be coordinated based on group arrival times). The drive to the retreat property will be about an hour from Perpignan. The easiest (and usually cheapest) way to travel in from the US is to fly into Spain -- the Barcelona El-Prat Airport (BCN) and then take the train from Barcelona Sants station to Perpignan, France (it is a short, comfortable and scenic 1.5 hour high speed journey). Train travel within Europe can be booked just a month or two in advance, there is no need (or ability) to book any earlier. Alternatively, you can fly into Perpignan-Rivesaltes (PGF) airport. More detailed information will be provided closer to the retreat dates for all guests. Return flights should be booked no earlier than 3:00 pm for Friday, June 3, or you can stay an additional night in Barcelona for flights on Saturday, June 4.
This was my first yoga retreat with Anna & Above Yoga and it exceeded all my expectations. I felt like all of the travel details were under control and the helpful tips on booking trains really made my preparation easy. Once we arrived to the retreat center, I felt like I was in heaven. The home and the property were like something out of a fairy tale book and I was completely in awe the entire time. The first full day of relaxation was my favorite and it was nice to have downtime to do yoga, read, eat healthy food and "just be". The bike riding with the picnic was probably my favorite as I would have never been able to plan something like that on my own. The friendships formed on this trip will be something I will carry with me for a long time.

Anna was on point with her communication throughout the entire process. There was never a question that I had that she hadn't already answered or wasn't available to answer in lightning speed. She was so relaxed and inviting the entire trip and never showed any sign of stress, even if there was a hiccup, which honestly, I can't remember if there was.

The South of France was my second retreat with Above Yoga. I love how detailed Anna is with her retreats. The pre-trip organization(flight/travel assistance, packing list, weather updates) is top notch. I also love the groups of people she cultivates to join her on trips. Her retreats are a perfect mix for me of yoga, adventure, and tourism!
